In Jennings’ book, Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 in southeastern Nigeria. Equiano was captured at a young age by ruthless slavers. He was forced to march the long journey to the sea, compelled to live aboard British vessels, in the colonies. The child will be born again, born of a new set of relations he cannot easily grasp. He can only draw on the vision of a world of spirits to capture through his imagination what he cannot understand through their language(175). Ironically in the midst of all this severe circumstances, hearing gospel from ruthless Christian slavers he became a Christian. Christians need to figure out that dominant culture is right or not, with using critical imagination.
